I barely have thumbs - let alone green ones! This summer I stepped out of my ... house ... and decided to try to grow ... something! ;) You see, I like the idea of the outdoors, I just rarely find myself actually enjoying the sun and fresh air. So I bought some flowers (yes, I decided not to go with seeds b/c ummm - yeah I'm too impatient!), and after those bit the dust I went out and bought a second bunch!! ;) I am soooo not joking either. I'm glad the Lord is in charge of keeping me breathing b/c seriously, if it weren't for that, I would so be dead!
I thought this one plant was really taking off. Wow! A nice BIG green sprout was appearing. Then it just sorta started taking over and I realized - Ummm, I think that's a WEED!! Look at that sucker! It's a miracle my poor little flowers got any nutrients at all!! They were probably praying they're blonde owner would rip the WEED out and stop thinking it was actually part of the plant!
Just 2 weeks ago I was sitting on the porch and saw a hummingbird diving into my petunias for the nectar. It was the neatest thing I have seen in a really, really long time. I love it when I can take in a moment the Lord gives me, and I recognize it as just that.
I'm still not sure what this plant is, but I purchased it b/c it was orange - so was the one beside it, but as you can see, I cut it out of the picture b/c it wasn't faring so well! My friend Jordyn loves orange, and I got it so I would remember her everytime I saw it. Now that she moved away it would be really nice for it to be blooming wonderfully, but cold temperatures are upon us now - so yeah - don't think it's gonna survive much longer.
Next year, I am going to try to venture out a little more. Baby steps you know. One little step at a time. All last year I had one plant in my classroom. My students kept saying, "Miss Orr!! The plant! It's dying." I just wanted them to experience the miracle of bringing something back to life! *ahem* Now that plant is in my living room - it's been revived a few times there too - but right now it's doing splendid. Then, this summer one set of flowers bit the dust, and the second set did half way decent. I'm ready to hit next summer full force. That's easy to say now - but hopefully I'll be just as motivated to get in the dirt in about 9 - 10 months! Maybe I'll branch out and try planting some vegetables too. :) Maybe my HIDDEN talent is planting food - not cooking it!!! ha ha

For your first try, I would say you're not doing too badly! Maybe you could try a tomato plant next year. They're pretty easy to grow as long as they get enough rain and/or watering. Well, that's assuming you like tomatoes! :)
