Why Do You?

If you are reading this than you are obviously a blogger or at least a member of this society's modern communication system. I have a friend who does not understand the concept behind modern technology. The more I try to explain, the more I realize, I really don't understand it either. All are welcome to see I am sooooooooooo not consistent. My use of technology does not fall in the category of "Use - or - will - die!" But it does fall by "Will - die - if - unable - to - use!"

Why do I blog?

Why do you blog?

Why do YOU read MY blog?

I blog to keep in touch with friends and family. I don't use it as a way to meet people. I really don't see myself as that interesting that people would actually want to strike up a conversation with me. Actually, after reading my blog, people are probably like, "Now there's ONE person I'm glad is NOT my neighbor!!"

I definitely don't blog to "fight a cause!" If you know me I'm the biggest pacifier out there. I want everyone to be happy. I want there to be daisies, lollipops, and rainbows 24/7!! I have an opinion, and every once in awhile it will shine through - but this is 97% a goof off - you'll never believe what happened to me - blog.

After my friend posed these questions to me though - I started thinking about it. Would you be willing to answer these questions? You don't have to leave it under "comment." You could e-mail your response. I'm just curious.

Like me, many say this is a source they use to keep in touch with friends. But why not just a mass e-mail? Why not a phone call? Why not an old-fashioned form of communication? Why does it have to be a new-fangled source? What's wrong with the good-old way?

Mass e-mails mean - if you accidentally "forget" someone, and they learn from someone else you didn't send them the latest news/pictures/or whatever, then you're facing "hurt feelings." With blogging, I feel like it's up to the individual to find out what's going on in my life. I know I'm not a consistent writer, but if you read my blog, you'll have some idea of what's going on with me. Those who really, really want to know read - those who just want to make sure I'm still on planet earth just pop in every once in awhile.

A lot of times with a mass e-mail you get / give too much info that's not applicable.

Do you do Facebook??

Do you do Bebo??

Do you do MySpace??

Why?? Why do people post pictures?? Why do you put yourself out there on the internet?? Do you know how many weirdos there are out there??

I have "networking" accounts - and like the background of my blog - I do NOTHING with them!! Maybe it's b/c I'm never on "my" computer, but I don't feel comfortable downloading ANYTHING!!

Is it to see how many friends you can have? To "spy" (just to be funny - AND COMPLETELY HONEST folks!)? To really find someone you haven't seen in forever?

I keep my blog open - (unless something causes me to lock it) but anything with more photos than my profile pic I have locked. I hate that I want to use these sources for anything BUT evil, but b/c they have been used for wicked they automatically get a scornful look by those who don't use them, and can see them as only evil. I feel guilty saying, "I'm on Facebook." I don't even admit to Myspace anymore. Even saying that - I feel like I have to "explain" myself. Well, sorry, but I'm not going to. I'm tired of being made to feel guilty for doing nothing wrong.

I'm not stupid. I know there are evil people out there. Mankind is sinful. I don't feel like I'm careless in my .com - ing though.

How would you explain networking/blogging to those over 45?? How would you explain it to show you understand what is being said on the news, but those are people that satan is ruling, and being a Christian you have completely different uses?? It almost seems impossible.

Can you answer my questions??

I would really appreciate responses. Thank you in advance!

I hate commenting on my own thought - but this just came to me. I like the convenience of blogging for communication, b/c you're not stuck until you're finished. You can "save for later", or walk away and come back, or (and I love this) DELTE!!! Phone calls, personal visits, mass e-mails -- once they're gone -- they are REALLY gone. No take backs!!

I blog primarily to record things I'd like to remember later. I've already "looked back" and read things I had forgotten - particularly about the boys. The second reason I blog is for others to keep up with what's going on in our lives (or to get a chuckle, as the case may be).

I read your blog to keep up with your life and to get a chuckle (which seems to happen more often than not b/c of your story-telling skills).

I have a fb account, but do not twitter, etc. I used to have a myspace account, but decided to stop for a variety of reasons. I especially didn't like that friends of friends of friends could see my profile.

OK, round two for me!

To expound on the reason why I blog - it is more of a web journal for me. In the future my boys can look on my blog (provided it's still there) and can all read what went on in our lives. Labeling posts makes this especially easy.

I post pics on my blog (sometimes), but primarily I put them on fb. Then I can control who sees them. I enjoy seeing others' pics and I know I have friends who like seeing pics of the boys growing up, etc.

Yes, an old-fashioned letter is nice. When we get one it's always an encouragement because we know it took extra time and quite frankly, money. But that doesn't make new ways of communicating wrong.

Any form of communication can be inappropriate or misused. There are both appropriate and inappropriate books. It is how we use these means of communication that matters. Evil is all around us but that does not mean anytime we do anything that others (meaning unsaved) are doing that it is inherently wrong. If that was the case we would all need to live like the Amish to make sure we aren't doing anything the world is doing. Jesus lived in the world, but was not of the world. He spent time with sinners, tax collectors, and prostitutes. He did not condone their behavior and/or participate in it, but he lovd them in spite of it.

We as Christians need to "move forward" along with the world. This does not mean we condone sinful behavior, change the Bible or Gospel message, or compromise on our convictions. It does mean we should be willing to change in areas that are not against God's principles and His Word.

FB can be used as a platform for complaining, griping, etc. I've learned a lot a/b peoples' personalities by reading their status updates. At the same time, I've seen people who put Scripture, praises, or encouraging phrases on their status updates. It is up to each one of us to decide whether we will let this communication tool be used for good or evil.

Just some thoughts. I'm not preaching at you, but wanted to hopefully address some of the questions you had.
