I love the little boxes, I love the chopsticks, but I cannot stand the food!! So many people I know love Chinese food -- I just can't handle it though. I can tell when my parents go out for Chinese -- when they come home I can smell it -- and I can smell it in their car for a day or two after as if they cooked the food right in the car! If my parents ever want to be alone -- they just mention Chinese food and they get the whole night to themselves. They caught on to that trick real early.
Sunday afternoon I was treated for lunch, and I about died when they mentioned we were going to a Chinese restaurant. One guy asked what I like -- and I said, I'm just an all-American girl. I like steak and potatoes, chicken and corn, hot dog and macaroni! Come to find out I had a comrade. He doesn't care for Chinese either. I told him, I'd follow him through the buffet line. Which I did, and I put everything on my plate that he took -- minus a hot sauce, and the egg-fu-yung soup (sp?).
Now, I have tried Chinese several times. Each time my friends say, Come on Jessica, you'll love it.....and everytime, I try it b/c I think -- These are my friends they must be right!! Everytime -- They're Wrong!!! When I got back to my table, my goal was to enjoy my rice -- and try not to gag when I ate the sweet n sour chicken.
After a "little" bit of the chicken, I thought - hey, maybe my friends were right. This isn't so bad. Maybe my taste buds are changing with age. I was able to eat a little more, and then take a larger bite and pretty soon, I realized I liked this sweet n sour chicken. After proclaiming quite publicly I did NOT like Chinese I figured it was only right to say -- Hey!! I think I'm starting to like this stuff!! So I said, "Man, I usually don't like Chinese, but this sweet n sour chicken isn't that bad. I actually like it! It doesn't even taste like the sweet n sour chicken I've had before" Someone from the end of the table said, "That's b/c you didn't put any Sweet n Sour sauce on it!!"

:P :O ;P :O :D :)) :) :D :)) :)
I had to laugh!! I should have known better. As I like to learn a little something from the many mistakes I make -- I now know, the next time my dad wants to be a smarty and say he's going to treat me to dinner -- Chinese style -- I'll say, "ok" and then I'll get my plain battered chicken and rice and have a good time!!

I didn't see my parents all afternoon, and when they came to church that night, my mom came straight towards me and said, "Did you go out for Chinese today?" I freaked out. I thought for sure I smelled like a Chinese restaurant. (I always make a big deal about my parents smelling "bad" after going out for Chinese.) I was all concerned and said, "Why?? How did you know?? Do I stink?!??!" As I started sniffing my clothes and hair she laughed and said, "No, no, no - there was a fortune cookie on the table!!" Ohhhhhhh! Well for Pete's Sake - why didn't she say so in the first place??
Ahhh, which reminds me -- I never did eat that fortune cookie. I'll break into that when I get off work. Hmmmm, what will my fortune be .... ? ? ? ? ? ....

If you try the real stuff, which you'll only find in China, you would like it. The authentic stuff has a lot more flavor and interesting ingredients and the sauces don't seem as heavy. After eating there I can hardly stand to eat the American version.
Hello again,
I forgot that I wanted to tell you that I found you through the blog Ever Joyful. I came to see the pictures when you went to visit.
This post made me smile. Thank you.
Mmmmmmmm, you're making me crave some sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, and egg drop soup! Yum, yum! I agree with Adele -- the real stuff is so much better than the Americanized foods. :) Come on, you know you liked eating some of the Japanese foods you had when you visited us! Oh, and next time, just let me eat all your oriental foods; I don't mind helping you out at all! :)
